Head of Family Law (WA)

Richard Crane brings a wealth of family law experience and expertise to the Australian Family Lawyers (AFL) national team, with a background in the UK as a Barrister in independent practice since 2001 and as a Barrister and Solicitor in WA, Australia, since 2011, specialising in family law. Richard is an Accredited Family Law Specialist and handles all aspects of family law, whether complex or straightforward, including (but not limited to) children’s matters, property settlement, spousal maintenance, and divorce. This includes married and de facto couples, and others who are interested in the care, welfare, and development of a child (such as grandparents).

Richard has a First-Class Honours Degree from Keele University, UK. He is the recipient of The Prince of Wales Scholarship from The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, London, UK. He has postgraduate qualifications awarded in the UK from Cambridge University, Nottingham Law School, and The Inns of Court School of Law, London. Prior to qualifying as a Barrister in 2001, Richard taught Mathematics for 5 years at Rugby School, UK, and Scotch College, WA, Australia.

Richard is well aware of the pressures, stresses, and complexities that some family law clients have to endure. He is dedicated to providing all of his clients with compassion, empathy, objective legal advice, attention to detail, and highly skilled legal representation. 

Richard aims to provide holistic care for his clients to achieve the best possible outcome most cost-effectively. He is articulate, knowledgeable, an active listener, supportive, tenacious, and genuinely cares about his clients and their family law issues.

Richard is respectful and understanding of the diverse backgrounds and socio-economic circumstances of the thousands of clients he has represented since becoming a Barrister in 2001. No two clients have been in the same situation with identical circumstances. Family law issues affect people from all walks of life and sometimes without any choice.

Richard will assist you with all parts of your family law matter, no matter how complicated or straightforward. Richard is analytical and strategic, which developed from his mathematical background prior to becoming a lawyer. He provides concise, tailored advice to his clients on the best way forward at each stage. Richard’s sole objective is getting the best outcome for you – the client.
