Portia Winkler migrated to Australia in February 2002 and commenced studying at the University of Notre Dame. Portia graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Politics).
Portia has had a very diverse career and, whilst studying, she worked in hospitality. Portia decided to pursue a career related to her Arts degree and, from 2006 to 2008, Portia worked as a Volunteer Research Officer for the member of Nedlands and eventually her skill and acumen landed her a paid full-time position as a Research Officer/Electorate Officer. Portia spent some time in the halls of Parliament and gained considerable insight into politics and legislative activities of parliamentarians. Portia remained passionate about the law and volunteered her services to a Family law firm in 2008.
In 2009, Portia decided to pursue a career in law, and whilst embarking on this journey, which would eventually lead her to practice exclusively in the area of Family Law. Portia worked for a process serving company, the Department of Attorney General: State Solicitors’ Office, and eventually fulltime employment as a practicing solicitor working in Family Law in 2012.
Portia Winkler is an accomplished professional with over 20 years of experience in numerous versatile positions. Portia is an accomplished legal professional with seniority, experience, and expertise, particularly in the area of family law.
Portia’s experience ranges from administration, legal process, legislation, policy review, planning, and coordination.
Portia holds a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2011.
Portia has a passion for family law and has completed her Master’s in Applied Law (majoring in family law) at the College of Law in 2026.
Portia practises exclusively in all areas of family law, including matters involving property settlement, de facto relationships, spousal maintenance, and parenting arrangements. Portia also practices in Family Violence Restraining Orders matters in the Magistrates’ Court.
Portia is very enthusiastic and passionate about Family Law and aims to ensure parties resolve matters in a quick and cost-effective manner, which enables clients to avoid Court proceedings where possible and seek a quick resolution.
Portia is a member of the Law Society of Western Australia and the Family Law Practitioners Association of Western Australia.
Portia is also a lecturer at the Institute of Legal Training (IOLT) Faculty, contributing to the practical development of the next generation of lawyers.
