Linda Cannings
Head of Family Law
Linda Cannings is the Head of Family Law for our Brisbane office. She has practised exclusively in family law since being admitted as a Legal Practitioner in 2003, and in 2009, Linda became an Accredited Specialist in Family Law.
Linda has practised in both New South Wales and Queensland and has extensive family law experience, knowledge, skills, and expertise. She is able to provide advice in all areas of family law including parenting arrangements for children including those involving risk, neglect and/or urgency (such as recovery applications and airport watchlist applications), child support disputes including departures from administrative assessments and child support agreements, property settlements for married and de facto couples, interim property and urgent applications (such as injunctions), financial agreements, spousal maintenance applications, contravention and enforcement applications and divorce applications.
For the last 15 years, Lindaโs client base has consisted of complex parenting matters and matters involving high-net-worth individuals with complex financial structures and business needs. She has developed close relationships with experts and professional advisors integral to achieving a successful outcome for her clients, including counsel, accountants, tax and corporate advisors, valuers, financial and wealth advisors, counsellors, psychologists, mediators and family report writers. Linda also has a special interest in assisting and supporting neurodiverse children and parents and is able to guide those families through the separation process.
Linda is a qualified Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, a Collaboratively Trained Lawyer and is a committee member of the Queensland Law Society Specialist Accreditation Family Law Committee. Linda is a member of the Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland. Linda has presented to Community Legal Centres Queensland including at the Community Legal Centres Queensland State Conference in Brisbane.

Linda focuses on keeping clients out of court through the use of skilled negotiation and alternative dispute resolution to resolve the issues. Lindaโs empathy combined with her many years of experience, her strategic approach and her dedication, allow her to achieve the best possible outcome for her clients.
Linda strives to guide each client through separation in a way that leaves them mentally and emotionally stronger, more empowered, and better positioned for the future.
