Catherine Weir

Special Counsel

Catherine has assisted people to achieve better futures throughout a long and distinguished career of over 30 years in Family Law.

Formerly a partner and Head of Family Law in two of Melbourne’s most highly regarded Family Law Firms, Catherine has also mentored young lawyers and instructed at the Leo Cussen institute, providing training for lawyers and law students.

Catherine listens closely to the needs and wants of her clients, to work towards outcomes that are not only desirable but also realistic.

When meeting clients she strives to understand where are at, what brought them to this point and what is important to them, before assisting clients to make plans for the future.

In addition to advising clients and appearing in court, she conducts round table conference negotiations and mediations, and is trained and experienced in  Collaborative Law; a method of resolving disputes, and in particular Family Law disputes, in a cooperative manner other than through the court system.

Catherine is experienced in all aspects of Family Law including divorce, complex parenting and financial matters, international proceedings, family violence matters, relocation, recovery orders and court applications requiring urgent hearings.

In her spare time Catherine enjoys hiking, singing in a community choir and running a goat breeding business.
