Head of Family Law – Melbourne

After more than 35 years of fighting for the rights of his clients, Steven knows what it takes to right wrong and get the best outcome for each client. Experienced, innovative and understanding, Steven is the Head of Family Law for Australian Family Lawyers’ Victorian office.

During his career, Steven has finely honed his skills, which includes handling the full range of family law services such as urgent matters, appeals, property and children’s cases, as well as representing clients during court appearances and mediations. Through this time he has also gained experience with non-family law litigation processes and general practice matters.

Dedicated to achieving sensible outcomes for his clients in a cost effective manner, Steven works closely with each client through the legal process to minimize any potential trauma from the court or negotiation process by keeping his clients fully and closely informed. Steven is driven to help those who have been impacted heavily by marriage breakdown, and finds it fulfilling getting to the end of the resolution process and see his client return to who they were before.

It’s this experience and dedication that saw Steven accredited by the Victorian Law Institute as a Family Law Specialist in 1995, and maintain that accreditation ever since.

Steven is analytical and strategic with thorough attention to detail, spending time to make sure he understands each element of his client’s situation which allows him to provide tailored advice on the best way forward.

Steven has a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University, a Bachelor of Laws from University of Melbourne and was admitted to practice in 1984.

Outside of work, music is a favourite past-time of Steven’s, having been a member of a band called The Ugly Uncles since 1997, playing piano and other instruments. He also volunteers for the Port Fairy Folk Festival as an MC, and is on the committee of the National Celtic Festival at Portarlington where he MCs and manages the MCs and Stage Managers.
